General Info…
Small groups of students work best – I usually play this with groups of 3-5
Materials: Dice, variety of colored poker chips, scratch paper or individual white boards
First student rolls the die and takes the card that goes with that number (for example 1 – Read It). While they are looking at the card or trying to solve it on their scratch paper the next student rolls – this is a fast moving game where no one has to wait for the player before them to solve a problem. If a student is still working on a problem they are skipped and the die is passed to the next ready participant. Once a student earns a poker chip for a type of problem they lose their turn if they roll the same number again. I color code the game so if they earn a Read It chip they get a red one; the Add & Check It might be a white chip – this way it is easy to keep track of who has earned which chips. The goal is to collect all of the different chips – the first person to do so is the winner!

2 = Add & Check – students will add two multi-digit numbers, then perform the inverse operation to check their work

3 = Write it – students will write a number that is presented to them in word format

4 = Round It – Students will use estimation to determine answers to questions on the cards

5 = Subtract & Check – students will subtract two multi-digit numbers, then perform the inverse operation to check their work

6 = Fact Families – students will work with fact families that relate to addition and subtraction
