Grab these addition strategy activities to get your students to use manipulatives when adding. Includes printable worksheets, flashcards, a manipulative mat for introducing the skill, and a game that is perfect for math centers or independent work! Please note, this resource is included in my Addition Strategy Bundle.
What's included with this addition strategy resource?
- 5 worksheets with pictures of manipulatives
- 5 worksheets with manipulatives for students to cut and use
- A game with 8 task cards, a recording sheet, a playing mat, flashcards, answer key
To use these addition strategy activities...
Worksheets:
The teacher will:
- Print and copy the activity! No prep needed!
- You may need to provide students with manipulatives
The students will:
- Use their manipulatives to solve each addition problem. They can compare it to the picture of the manipulatives on each page. Or students can use the given pictures of the manipulatives to solve each problem.
- Cut out the pictures at the bottom of each page to solve each addition problem.
Task Cards for Math Centers:
- Students will choose a task card.
- Students will write the addition sentence on their recording sheet. They will look at each color to determine the addends. For example, on the first card, the blue is one addend and the pink is the other addend.
- Students will count all of the manipulatives to solve each problem.
*Bonus* Manipulative Mat-Perfect for introducing this skill!
- Give students an addition mat and some manipulatives.
- Show students a flashcard.
- Students will model each addition sentence on their mat to solve.
- You can even add this to your centers! Just include the mats, manipulatives, and a set of flashcards!
