Are your students having trouble bridging the gap between pictures of addition and subtraction and written number models? This versatile resource will help you make the transition clear and easy for them!

The Common Core Standards for first grade math call for students to be able to use addition and subtraction to solve word problems by using drawings to represent the problem. {1.OA.A1} See It Solve It addresses this skill with these resources:

60 picture cards showing varying representations of addition and subtraction, including pictures and number lines (see preview for examples)

♦ A student recording sheet and answer key to give you the option of using the cards for Read the Room activities. The cards are color-coded into five separate sets for this purpose.

♦ Materials for writing number stories/word problems based on pictures: two teacher pages for modeling, four pages with picture models for students to write about, and a blank template for students to draw their own picture and then write the word problem.

♦ A sorting mat for students to distinguish between addition and subtraction picture representations

♦ A board game for use in small groups and centers
