Add and subtract integer problems posted around the room? Yep. Activity self-checks? Yep. But it’s not a scavenger hunt? Right, aren’t you ready to change things up? Introducing the Adding & Subtracting Integers Quote Wall --all the features that you love about a scavenger hunt but different.
Student pairs answer these expression problems in ANY ORDER. All answers are integers from -6 to 8. Students record the letters from each question card next to their answer on a specially set-up notebook paper. Students will complete 15 adding & subtracting problems that are confusingly close and have integer solutions.
While monitoring the room, the teacher-extraordinaire can give timely feedback with only a quick glance at a student’s answer sheet. When finished, students will be surprised to see the letters string together to form a life quote regarding a positive outlook. (Because the words are chopped up strategically, students don’t see the message right before their eyes as they work out the problems.)
An alternate worksheet for absent or ornery students is included. Also find a 2nd level with adding and subtracting decimals (yes, I know, not integers) that can be used simultaneously for easy differentiation or mixed into create a moderate level activity.
