187+20=.... 591+10=..... 176+30=..... Adding across the 10s and 100s can be a tricky roadblock when it comes to mental math! In my second grade classroom, I have found this to be a common struggle for my students. I created these task cards as a practice tool to be used as a small group center or a whole class activity.
-36 task cards. Each task card (except for one sneaky one) requires students to add into the next group of 10 or 100. Task cards begin simply (two digit+10) and progress in difficulty on each page.
-Student recording sheet
-Print task cards on cardstock and laminate to make them last.
-Print one recording sheet per student. **I like to print extra recording sheets and place them in a large ziplock baggie with the task cards so they are always ready to go.
IDEAS ON HOW TO USE THESE TASK CARDS
-ON LEVEL but needs pratice: Whole group- place task cards around the room, students move around to different cards and solve.
-APPROACHING: Small group- pull a group who needs extra practice with them, reteach a strategy, work in pairs or individually.
-ADVANCED: Sort cards from least to greatest by sum
