Help your students become artists in your classroom! Students complete 10 angle challenges that are real-world related. This math activity is perfect for 4th graders. It aligns with 4.MD.7.
Print out all 10 color posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will become artists and will need to complete all challenges. They have to find all the challenges you've left around the classroom and find the answers to each one. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.
Since it's artist day, I like to have my class paint on the recording sheet after they complete each math page. I explain how to do this in the preview and in the product! You can also use other things like crayons, markers, or other fun art stuff to fill in the recording sheet!
Step 1: Tell your fourth grade class that they are an artists today and will practice adding angles. Students solve math challenges set up around the room. They can be completed in any order and you can choose how many challenges students complete or what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.
Set-up is quick and easy. Simply print the 10 posters, the math worksheets, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin! Additional door décor, editable name tags, editable admission tickets, and themed banner are included if you want to use them!
Step 2: Let students move around the room and solve each challenge! Each time students solve a math challenge, they go to the teacher to get it checked. Students can work independently, in partners, or groups. Your choice!
Step 3: When students finish all ten challenges (or however many you assign), they win! You can give them the certificate of completion included. I also reward my students with a cool eraser at the end.
Step 4: Most of the time, there are early or fast finishers! These kiddos get to go around the room and scan the QR codes provided! Each QR code leads to a fun fact about artists that they can record on the sheet provided or a piece of notebook paper. This keeps everyone happy and on task!
