Product Description
This mini bundle, Adding Decimal Fractions is part of 4.NF.5,. The 'Decimal Fractions PowerPoint' that is included covers all of NF.5. It includes looking at where decimal fractions are found in every day life, in the place value chart, how to find the equivalent fractions of decimal fractions, how to represent them visually in 10's and 100's grid, number lines, fraction circles and how to add decimal fractions.

All the slides from the PowerPoints can be printed to make wall charts or mini booklets.

I have purposely created all of my resources from the ground up to specifically cover the required standards, and I incorporate math language, deeper thinking discussions and connections to the real world in most of the lessons. My manipulatives (hands on activities) give student the ability to see math visually and mentally as well as touch the materials used in math.

Each Lesson Plan includes the CCSS, the Mathematical Practices used in this lesson, the objectives, the "I can statements" for the children, PowerPoint to teach or revise from, an introduction to the lesson, the whole class lesson which will always include manipulatives, independent work in the shape of practice sheets, reflective journal entry, and a fast finishers activity or game, most often a game. Resources can also be easily converted into math centers.

You will never run out of something to keep your students occupied and motivated. I will always include more! I had to always look for something more to supplement the lesson, usually when my school wanted to use text books and that's why I fill my lessons up with lots of resources! Busy minds, happy class!

In addition to one Comprehensive Lesson Plan, this mini bundle includes the following 7 resources:

Decimal Fractions PowerPoint
This PowerPoint covers all of NF.5, it begins by looking at where decimal fraction can be found on the place value chart and how to find equivalent fraction for decimal fractions. The ppt explains why they are equivalent and step by step of how to find the equivalents. All the slides from the PowerPoint can be printed to make wall charts or mini booklets.

This worksheet asks the students to add decimal fractions. Each question has working-out room, a 100's grid and number line to use to workout their solution. 4 pages of questions, plus answer key.

Decimal Fraction Flash Cards - 4th Grade Math (4.NF.5)
The flash cards can be used to increase the fluency of the students understanding of converting decimal fraction to their equivalent fraction. I use this activity as a whole class with the students sitting in front of me, but they can be used in pairs or small groups as well.

This is an independent activity where the students draw the letters of their name and then calculate the decimal fractions for each letter. Once they have finished, the students can add all the decimal fractions in their names. I encourage the students to stick their names on the math wall.

This PowerPoint shows step by step how to add decimal fraction with unlike denominators. It show how to make the denominators the same and therefore then add the fractions. Each slide states what questions the students should be asking themselves when doing each step to add the decimal fraction.

Tenths & Hundredths Grid
I use these grids to add decimal fraction by placing base 10 blocks for one fraction and then adding more block for the second fraction added.

Decimal Fraction Number Cards & Working Out Mat (4.NF5)
I created this resource with the intention of helping the students workout how to change unlike denominators so they can then add the decimal fractions.
The resource includes a working out mat for changing the denominator from tenths to hundredths by multiplying and vice versa by dividing. There is also a blank working out mat. All the working out mat can be laminated so that the students can also use erasable marker.
Also included are the tenths and hundredths decimal fractions and a variety of number cards to place in the working out mat as the numerator answer.

Anecdotal Observation Sheet for Fractions
There are two per page and each anecdotal note contains the standard as a reference. Photocopy one for each student, staple together and then next time they are completing a task that meets all the requirements of standard 4.NF.5 record your observation and then use this information in your reports. I would often take a photo of the students working and attach this to the anecdotal sheet also.

Reflective Math Journal Sheet
The reflective journal sheet asks the students to reflect on what they have learnt today in their math lesson. They are asked to use words or drawings to explain their thinking and a second question that asks them what they will remember to take into their next math lesson.
Getting into the habit of asking the students to spend 5 minutes completing this sheet may be hard but incredibly rewarding once they are used to doing the task. Use it as an exit pass. :)
The information you will be able to get from them will be very valuable and it will make report writing easier.

All Of My Resources Are Common Core Aligned (But Also Work Great For Those Using Other Standards):
You can feel confident that you are comprehensively teaching your students every skill in the standard with my resources, as all have been designed from the ground up to align to the CCSS. Whilst my resources have specifically been designed for 4th Grade, most will also be most applicable to higher ability students in grade 3 and lower ability students in grade 5.
