Product Description
Adding Decimals using a Visual Model to find the Sum of Three Decimals!

This resource is included in my Decimal Centers

Students will compare decimals, estimate the sum of three decimals, explain their reasoning, represent decimals using a visual model, and find the sum of three decimals. Students will begin by selecting five decimals. Of the five decimals selected, students will find the three greatest decimals and write them on the Select Five board. They will estimate the sum of the three largest decimals. Students will think about whether the sum will be closer to 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0, and then explain their reasoning. The students will shade the first decimal on a grid. They will continue shading adding on the amount of the second and third decimals. They should not leave any spaces on the grid between the decimals. Once the students have shaded all three decimals, they will write the total amount shaded in the box to the right of the grid. Next, they will add the three decimals together and check to see if their answer matches the answer they found when they shaded the grid. This package contains 3 assessments with answer keys.

-Laminate or place Select Five printable in a clear report cover to use with dry erase markers as a math center.

-Display Select Five printable on an interactive whiteboard for whole class discussions.

-Use one of the 3 printable with answer keys as an assessment.

-Create your own assessment by writing five specific decimals in the boxes at the top of the printable and then make copies to use as an assessment.
