Teachers know that even their most reluctant students will try to solve a cryptic puzzle. This activity is two pages long. Students use the "Boss One" to write fractions with the same denominator in order to add fractions. The answer to the puzzle is "They are both carpets," that is "car pets" for the stuffed animals. Notice that two of the answers will be used twice. At some point students will make a lasting visual connection between the Boss One and writing equivalent fractions with the same denominator in order to add and subtract fractions. Make sure that "Actual size" is checked in the print dialog box when printing, otherwise, the printer will shrink the worksheet.
