These word problems using adding fractions on a number line can be used in several ways. 1. Task Cards: Print out the cards and cut out the individual task cards 1-12. Students can solve each one either writing their responses on the cards or in a journal. 2. Scoot game. Place each of the 12 word problems around the room. Pairs or triads of students solve the problem together. Ring a bell or move the groups every 3 or 4 minutes until all have completed each card. 3. Independent work: Print out all 6 pages and assemble into a packet for students to complete. 4. Projectable: Display one problem each day on the white board. Solve the problems in journals, in pairs, or model with the entire class. 5. Small group: work on each problem collaboratively in a small group. Slowly withdraw from modeling and continue to have students solve on their own or in pairs.
