This powerpoint lesson shows how different words added to a story can create different moods. The first part of the lesson includes three versions of the same story to compare (no mood, playful mood, and scary mood). It also includes a sort for students to determine what mood a group of words or phrases would support - happy, sad, or scary. Finally, a simple story is displayed (no mood). Students can add the words that they sorted to revise the story for a particular mood.
My students have had a lot of fun with these stories. They really enjoy being creative with their word choice. I have also used the final story as a competition to see which team of students could create the most interesting story. Lots of fun!
