Every student (or pair of students) gets a blueprint and a set of task cards in this activity. The blueprint marks the lengths of walls with polynomials, such as "x + 4" or "2x - 1". Each of the 16 cards asks the students to "find the length of the kitchen's north wall" or "find the perimeter of the dining room", leading students to combine the like terms they see. My students really enjoyed this activity when I taught Algebra 1. Being able to combine like terms is so important and this activity makes it fun!
The download includes a student answer sheet and answer key. You may choose to print only a few sets of the task cards and have your students share. The student answer sheet is printed 2 per page to save paper.
