Every year, it seems like my students struggle with the concept of Adding Rational Numbers. I created this puzzle to help my students have a hands-on experience at strengthening their skills on the subject. My students really enjoyed this activity! There is a mix of improper and mixed fractions, as well as different signs.
Have students cut out the puzzle pieces on page 2, and then glue them on a separate sheet of paper. When they are finished, it should make a duck figure! I don't tell my students what the figure is before they start, because they love to guess and try to figure out what it is!
• One copy of puzzle pieces per student (page 2)
• Glue sticks
• Extra paper for them to glue their pieces on (I like to use colored construction paper)
