Students will practice adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators to evaluate 12 fraction expressions with this fun password search activity. Expressions are of type a±b, (a±b)±c and a±(b±c) where a, b and c are proper fractions in their simplest form. There are included three examples respectively with three, four and five addends. Students will obtain proper fractions that must be reduced to simplest form and improper fractions that must be converted into mixed numbers.
Activity Directions: Students solve 12 problems and then use a given table to find which character (letter, number or sign) corresponds to each of their answers and fill in another table to obtain a funny password. Students tell the password to the teacher. If it is correct, then they have solved all problems right.
Answer keys are included.
