This editable product contains double-sided notes and a worksheet on adding integers and subtracting integers. The adding side contains a short flow chart with instructions to help guide students through addition with integers. The subtraction side really focuses on rewriting integer subtraction problems with addition by reading the "minus" sign as "the opposite of".

I had great success with my students and then rewriting their subtraction problems to then approach the problem like an addition problem.

The worksheet contains 20 practice problems with adding and subtracting integers, along with a portion on the bottom of the page for students to evaluate how they are feeling about adding integers and how they are feeling about subtracting integers, to get some sort of informal assessment from your kids!

This whole set contains an answer key for the notes and the worksheet, but is also editable!

Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract rational numbers.
Understand subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, 𝘱 – 𝘲 = 𝘱 + (–𝘲). Show that the distance between two rational numbers on the number line is the absolute value of their difference, and apply this principle in real-world contexts.
Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram.
