Scholars will create a menu for a restaurant, we used this as an end of year project.
-Add decimals to find the total of each section of their menu (entree, sides, desserts, drinks)
-Add decimals to find the total cost of their menu
-Create "combination plates" that offer a discount that will have scholars subtracting decimals
-Create a menu that falls within an area requirement
-Draw a diagram of their menu
-Includes "check-ins" which allow peers to grade sections of the project and give feedback
Scholars got really into the area piece, I had 5th graders finding the area of circles for their poke-ball menus, while others were fine keeping to the rectangle. Lots of options for differentiation, for example some scholars were using whole numbers while others decimals.
