Description

My students LOVE to get out of their seats and move! This activity will allow students to dance their way to mastery while learning and practicing adding and subtracting integers while creating a model to justify their thinking.

Students wear "Hello my name is..." name tags with integers on the name tag. This is their new identity. Students will dance around the room until the music stops. When the music stops students will pair up and introduce themselves to their new friend. Together students will either add or subtract depending on what the teacher calls, and then students will draw models to represent the addition or subtraction. The teacher calls up a group to display their model and solution!

My students love this activity and it is so much better then a boring worksheet to practice the algorithm!
