Students work in partners to add and subtract integers in this collaborative "Around the Clock" partner scavenger hunt activity. Each partner gets a clock with 12 unique integer expressions to simplify. Each partner's expressions are different but they will simplify to the same integer, encouraging collaboration and teamwork. If one student gets stuck, the other can help. If student answers differ, they work together to figure out the correct answer before moving on to the next problem.
Students paste their START slip at 12 o'clock, find simplify the integer expression and then find the answer on the top of another slip. They then paste this next slip at 1 o'clock and simplify the problem on this slip. Each answer students find will lead to the next problem to simplify.
Students simplify integer expressions with three integers to add and/or subtract, pasting their slips along the way, until they get back to 12 o'clock. If all problems have been simplified correctly, the answer from the problem at 11 o'clock will be at the top of their START slip.
*2 versions of the slips are included: one version using parenthesis to separate all signs and one version where some parenthesis are excluded. You can choose to use either version.
The activity is self-checking, providing students with instant feedback. The final product is a colorful example of their ability to find slope between two points. Includes optional student answer sheets and answer key.
