This PowerPoint presentation teaches students how to use visuals (also called area model) to add and subtract mixed numbers. It walks students through an example for each type of problem and includes practice problems. I call student volunteers up to the board to shade in the area models and solve the equations. You can also print out the slides as handouts to create a worksheet for independent work.
