Description

This no prep game is designed to help students become confident adding ed and ing endings to words.

The following word structures are included:

★ Words with a short vowel and one consonant after the vowel (CVC).

★ Words with a short vowel and two or more consonants after the vowel (such as CVCC).

★ Words with a silent e that is dropped before adding the ending.

★ Words with a y that is changed to an i before adding the ending.

★ Mixed words so students have to decide what do before adding the ending.

Students roll a die to determine which ending to add to each word. They then read the word and write the word with the –ed or –ing ending. I find that this simple activity makes practice/reinforcement fun for students.

This file includes six posters stating phonics principles, six practice sheets and a template for a die. The format of each sheet remains the same, so once kids understand the activity they can focus on mastering the skill of adding –ed and –ing endings.

This resource is now also available in digital form, as a set of Boom Learning Digital Task Cards. These are self-correcting and highly engaging. If you'd like to take a look, click here.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
