This activity works best with small groups of students. I used it as a performance task in place of an assessment for adding fractions (can be used for multiplying fractions). It could also be used as an enrichment for quick finishers or a center activity.
Students will need to know how to:
•Add and/or multiply fractions
•Use their prior knowledge to figure out what half of a fraction equals (only for the candy cookies task that can be omitted)
•Change an improper fraction to a mixed number
•5 basic cookie tasks for adding or multiplying fractions
•1 task that requires more in-depth thinking to find 2 ½ batches of a recipe
•Table to add up the total amount of each ingredient needed
