Addition: Addition Concentration Game Numbers 1-20 - PDF file

This game is a great way for young children to learn basic addition skills.

The addition concentration game focuses on numbers 1-20, using the counting on strategy as its main focus.

Included in your resource is a cover page, guide page, game cards (6 cards to a page) and two different student record sheets for the various levels in your classroom.

Your download includes 9 sets, all color coded, dealing with adding numbers from 2-9 for example the first set deals with adding 2; 2+0, 2+1, 2+2, 3+2, 4+2, 5+2, 6+2, 7+2, 8+2, 9+2, 10+2, 11+2, 12+2, 13+2, 14+2, 15+2, 16+2, 17+2, and 18+2. You will noticed that the larger number always appears first, this is the same in all sets, so to promote the the acquisition of counting-on. The next set continues the same for example, 3+0, 3+1, 3+2, 3+3, 4+3, 5+3, 6+3 and so on, all in a different color, All answers are provided, as seen in images and in the preview file.

Please download the preview file, view the images and read this description to decide if this download is appropriate for your students.

Print, laminate and cut your cards out. Show children how to play concentration by placing all of the cards face down in columns and rows on the ground. Model how to take turns in turning the cards over and adding to see if they match and placing them back exactly where you found them. Explain that you should try your best to remember the cards that have been turned. Show children that they can have another turn when they draw a pair. If a player turns over a pop card, the must turn it back over and the next player has a turn. The player with the most pairs at the end wins! It is recommended that between 2-6 players take part in the game. You might like to split the cards in half to form two groups of 6 children.

You could also play a simple matching game, or snap in pairs with each set.
