This is a simple game that can be used to reinforce knowledge of Near Ten addition basic facts e.g. 7+4 is near 6+4 (+1). Students choose two different game cards. One shows either 7+, 8+ or 9+. The other card shows either 4,5 or 6. These two cards create a random addition basic fact. Students match this addition fact with a matching representation of the fact that highlights the make ten fact the fact created is near e.g. 8+6 would match 8+ 2+4 on the game-board.There is no need to work out answers to the facts. This game just connects the addition fact to a representation of a strategy that could be used to work it out. Students place one of their counters on the game-board space that matches the card they have chosen. They try to get 3 of their counters in a row to win the game.
