These large and colorful Flash Cards were created with my ELL students in mind. Our school is quite diverse and I have been privileged to work with students from various cultures and backgrounds. This provides challenges as well as rewards. My biggest challenge with these students has been their inability to develop a personal relationship to their numbers. They just don’t understand what the word or numeral “five” means. Their parents, bless their hearts, just don’t know how to talk math and give them a background to build from.
It is very difficult to move at the quick speed of our curriculum with these students so I have created these flash cards for small group work with my ELL students. My goal is to send these cards with my students to their after school academic program they attend so our wonderful volunteers may assist my kiddos on their Number Sense and Fact Fluency.
Feel Free to use these however they fit into your classroom. I was frustrated with my old flash cards. They did not have enough space to place stickers on for these students to count as part of their count on strategy so I made my own.
