Addition Centers

Write Around The Room:
Post the lettered pillow cards around the classroom or on a bulletin board. Give each student a copy of the student record sheet on page 4. Students write addition equations matching the tens frames pictured on the pillows.

Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite:
2-3 players Create a deck of 27 cards using the lettered pillow cards and the 2 bite cards. Shuffle the cards, and then lay them face down in the middle of the players. One at a time, each player will draw a card and say the addition equation pictured on the pillow. If the player is correct, he keeps the card. If the player is incorrect, he places the card on the bottom of the draw pile. If a player draws a BITE card, he must put all of his cards on the bottom of the draw pile. The player with the most cards wins.

Match Up:
1-2 students Using the lettered pillow cards and the equation cards, students will match the addition equation to the pillow card. Students may record their answers on the record sheet on page 4. (see answer key on page 5) This sheet may be laminated so that students may complete using dry erase markers. The equations reinforce the meaning of the equal sign as "same as."
