This is a math game for addition facts to 10 that increases engagement and allows students to be up and moving. Students will actually be “fishing” for their math facts. Print the fish cards and laminate. Hole punch the corner of each card and attach a paper clip through the hole. Then, tie yarn or string to a yard stick with a magnet attached to the bottom; these will be their fishing poles.
Students spread out fish cards on the floor, or “pond” and take turns trying to catch fish with their magnets. Once they catch their fish they must write and solve the addition fact on their recording sheet. If they get the fact wrong, they must “let the fish” go, or place it back in the pond with the other fish. The player who catches the most fish and answers correctly wins.
