An engaging way to start this lesson resource is to sing, The Wheels On the Bus and to find a copy of the text and read the story. After singing/reading the song flash the subitizing bus cards and have the students tell you how many students they see on the bus and how they see them. The cards can be hand held by the
teacher or displayed on a screen.

Another part of the resource is a 0-10 Students on the Bus Concentration Card Game. The teacher will need to teach her students how to play concentration and this activity can be done independently or as part of a math center. Be sure to copy this on card stock!

The next resource option is to print the Concept Attainment Sorting Cards. To use these cards the teacher would shuffle all the cards up. Start to sort the cards that go together into piles. Don’t say a word but by your actions show students that you are thinking about every card and making a decision about where it goes. Eventually allow a student to tell you what they have noticed you doing and how the rest of the cards should be played. After modeling this activity it can also be done independently or in a math center.

Blank 10 Frame Bus Cards are available for students to build numbers that you call out. These could also be used to show addition problem that students solve while adding to 10.

Another option in the resource is to look at the problem written on the bus. Students would then use a markerand draw happy faces on the windows to illustrate the
problem.

More bus cards are available to help students work problems showing the concept of +1.

Students are also given the opportunity to look at the kiddos on the bus and make multiple number bonds for the number of kids on the bus.

Word Problem Cards are included to support the concept of adding on with the result unknown.

Students also have the opportunity to look for ways to make 10 using partner cards.

The last activity in the resource are several mini number fluency practice pages.

I hope your students enjoy using this resource to help them grow in their ability to work with numbers to 10.
