Activity (titles, equations)
Student will need:
Large construction paper
This properties of addition activity is a great way to review the properties and assess.
I usually do this activity after teaching a mini lesson on Days 1, 2, and 3 about each of the three addition properties (Hands on Standards has some great resources).
Day 4, distribute a slip of property titles (4 per page/cut horizontally) and a slip of equations (3 per page/cut vertically). On large construction paper, fold into three columns. Student will glue down each title at the top of the column and use book or other resource to write a definition below title. Student will then cut each equation or equation pair out and decide under which property it belongs. When finished, student can add an example equation of their own under each property.
I use this as a classwork grade, and send it home as a study guide. The Properties of Addition quiz (included, 2 per page) can be used the following day for a quiz grade.
