Use this craftivity to reinforce the concept of regrouping vs not regrouping when completing an addition equation.
Students will put together the elephant crafitivty by cutting out a variety of addition questions, sorting them into two piles (regrouping needed and regrouping not needed), and then gluing them underneath each elephant ear. Students will then justify how they know to regroup or not to regroup in the written portion of this task. Students are able to show their understanding using words and pictures.
3 Different sets of addition questions are given: Adding to 50, Adding to 100, and Adding to 500.
Also included are 2 assessment tools for keeping anecdotal notes during whole group work periods or during guided math practise.
There is also fun bunting provided for you so that your "Adding with Elephants" bulletin board is complete. Just string ribbon through the bunting where the Xs are shown and hang it up for a pretty display.
The elephant craftivty has all parts labelled and ready to be cut out and put back together. It is also given in grey so that a thick black line will not be visible after students have coloured and cut it out.
