This unit includes 130 pages of 11 common addition strategies. Included are ten frames, hundred charts, charts to twenty, number lines and strategy posters.
I introduce each strategy separately but then continually use them all year. For example, I teach the first strategy: Joining Groups to Add (using manipulatives), do a few worksheets and then move on to the next strategy. I then continue to review the first strategy and so on.
We continually talk about the strategies we are using when modeling math. I also ask students which strategy they feel would work best in given situations.
I teach these strategies using manipulatives. These worksheets are great for reinforcing skills, homework or extra practice. I also feel that projecting these sheets is a very effective teaching tool.
