According to the Common Core Standards:
First graders need to be able to “Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.” (1.OA.6)
These are the addition and subtraction flashcards students need in order to practice and master this Common Core standard. The flashcards are divided into four sets:
1. Addition facts with sums to 7
2. Addition facts with sums of 8, 9, & 10
3. Subtraction facts from 7
4. Subtraction facts from 8, 9, & 10
The flashcards are divided into four sets so that teachers can pass out one set per quarter. This allows students to learn these facts by focusing on a manageable amount of facts at a time (instead of focusing on all the facts at once which would be overwhelming for children).
These facts could be used in Kindergarten since the Common Core standard is to be fluent with facts within 5. (The extra facts could be used for the advanced students.) These facts could also be used in 2nd grade for students who have not yet mastered the 1st grade Common Core standard, or as a review for children before learning the more difficult facts within 20.
