Our students are taught various strategies for mentally solving addition and subtraction problems and we want to encourage them to use different strategies depending on the numbers they are presented with. This is a set of 6 strategies with a visual example of how the strategy works on a number line. If placed in the classroom, students can refer to the posters when they need to. Strategy posters are:
1. split strategy
2. jump strategy
3. communitive properties/compensation strategy
4. bridging strategy
5. doubles/near doubles strategy
6. inverse operation (more suited to subtraction)
