These task cards will provide concrete, ongoing practice for students learning their first sets of addition facts, all of the sums through ten. The children match the numeral cards to each of six different concept cards. The task cards can be used independently, with a partner, or with a small group. You can easily differentiate this activity, as everything is color–coded for ease in separating card types. For a child not yet ready to use the numeral cards, leave them out. For a child who may be overwhelmed with so many cards, just use a couple of colors until their confidence grows. The cards can also be used for remediation of older children who have yet to learn their addition facts. There are several considerations for differentiation included.
These kinds of tasks help children deeply understand the meaning of the quantity represented by each number. The children are building understanding at the concept level (representational manipulatives) while making connections to the symbolic level of learning (the addition problem)!
This packet is ready to be printed out on card stock, laminated, cut apart and it is ready to go! Includes 11 addition task cards using addends 0 – 10 for all sums equaling 10. There are also 11 addition task cards at the concept level that match those at the symbolic level (the addition cards with numbers) for each of the following concrete materials: dice, fingers, ten-frames, Unifix Cubes, dominoes, and tally marks for a total on 66 concept cards.
