Addition Word Problems for a Bit of An Extra Challenge~
I made this packet to help my kids take their word problems to a whole new level. This packet will challenge your students with a flip of what kids are normally used to when working on their problems. It will challenge their thinking and will give you a better idea if they are really understanding the concepts.
How will it challenge your students? Each page has a word problem. The word problems have the sum included in it and two options of what can be a part of that sum. Your students will need to figure out how many they can have of each item in order to make up that sum (for example... an example of a word problem could be: Rufus loves to have dog bones in his jar. He has 10 bones in the jar. Some are shaped like a fire hydrant and some are shaped like a ball. How many of each kind of bone does Rufus have in his jar?).
You students will be challenged by 23 different problems with sums that range from 6 to 20. Each page comes in color and in black and white. The formats on the pages change, but each page will encourage kids to fill in information on the following areas:
~ An Addition Problem
~ Writing Numbers
~ Number Sentences
~ Part Part Whole Strategies
~ Ten Frames
~ Addition on Number Lines
