Product Description
Target Number is a great game to provide plenty of practice using addition and subtraction mental strategies.
The Target Number game can be used to focus on specific strategies as you teach them, such as - bridging through ten, counting on/back, doubles, near doubles, friends of 10, chunking.
It can also be played regularly to build confidence with these strategies.
Each of the ten games in this pack includes a colourful game board and 10 Target Number cards ready to print, laminate and cut.
(It is a good idea to print the number cards onto different coloured papers, or stick a coloured dot on the back before laminating, so that cards can be easily kept together.)
Also included are a 100 number square and 3 different number lines to help students check their totals. Each game uses a different set of number cards ranging from 10 to 104. You can extend more able students and support less able ones with this range of numbers.

How to play:
Play with 2 or more players.
You need some counters.

•Shuffle the cards and place in a pile face down near the board.
•One player turns the top card over and places it on the game board covering the white space. This number is the Target Number for the first game.
•Players take turns to cover balloons, using mental strategies to add the totals as they go. The person to reach the target number is the winner and scores one point.
•The next card is turned up to show the Target Number for each new game.
•If no one can reach the target number the game ends and no one scores.
•The first player to reach a score of 5 (or any other chosen total) wins.

Variations:
•Play for subtraction practice – start at the number turned over on the card and the target number is 0.
•Players can challenge another’s total and it if is incorrect that player loses a point.
•Play with an extra player and take turns to be the Addition / Subtraction Checker. This player can use a 100 square, number line or calculator to check the others’ calculations as the game progresses.
