In preparation for each end of unit assessment, I play an interactive, collaborative review game with my class. They are grouped together in teams of 4-5 students. Each student has their math journal with notes and their personal white board that it used to play the game.
When I display a problem, teams work together to find the correct answer. I circulate the room to make sure students are helping one another, rather than simply telling teammates the correct answer. When I feel that enough time has been given, I do a 5 second count down.
After the 5 seconds, all students must "show their boards". EVERY student in a group must have work shown in addition to the correct answer in order to earn their team a point.
This PowerPoint is used at the end of the of a unit on Addition and Subtract of three digit numbers. It has questions on rounding and estimating sums as well. There are easy computation problems and story problems.
