Addition and Subtraction Using Pictorial Models, Number Lines, and Equations
With this resource, students will add and subtract using pictorial models, number lines, and equations. The pictorial models include strip diagrams (tape diagrams) and number bonds. The strip diagram models reflect the method seen on sample questions most recently released from T. E. A. (Texas Education Association).
These task cards can be used as:
Sample problems for whole group discussion
Review or assessment
“Walk the Room” - moving from problem to problem
“Scoot” – where students are directed to scoot to the next problem after a certain time period.
And many other creative options to make math more engaging.
Throughout these tasks students will be asked to justify, consider reasonableness, and engage in rigorous thinking.
