Help your students to become proficient at addition and subtraction with these task cards. The skills addressed include basic facts, mental math ,addition and subtraction to 100 (with and without regrouping), adding multiple addends, and solving multi-step problems.
Do your students struggle with problem solving? Mine did, until I started to incorporate word problems into my instruction daily as part of my morning math meeting. This resource contains 180 single and multistep word problems that you can use each day with your students. The cards are color coded with 20 cards in each set. Because the cards were created to get progressively more difficult, I use the red bordered cards in September, black in October, orange in November, green in December, light blue in January, pink in February, light green in March, blue in April, and yellow in May. I use one each day as part of my daily math meeting, but you could use them as a small group activity, as a math center, or in student math journals. Use them in any way / order that best meets the needs of your students.
This set contains a variety of problem structures including join problems (result unknown, change unknown, and initial unknown), separate problems (result unknown, change unknown, and initial unknown) part-part-whole problems (whole unknown, and part unknown) and compare problems (difference unknown, larger unknown, and smaller unknown).
Although these cards were created to address the second grade standard (2.OA.A.1), they could also easily be used with 1st and 3rd grade students needing remediation or enrichment.
I have provided each problem in 3 different sizes.
The full size page is perfect for displaying on a "Problem of the Day" board. The medium size cards(1/4 page) work great as task cards or for use in a math center. The smallest cards (in black and white) are ideal for copying, cutting, and pasting into student math journals. Answer keys are included. The cards were designed to progressively more difficult and with so many to choose from, it will be easy to differentiate your instruction to meet the various needs of your students.
I hope that you and your students will find these cards as valuable as I have! Be sure to download the preview for a closer look! Thanks for looking!
