This is a great activity for students learning how to add and subtract with negative numbers. There are 8 pairs of expressions that when students simplify they result in same answer. Students then match up the pairs of expressions to complete the game.
This activity can be conducted in different ways. One option is to play the "I has, who has" version, where you can distribute all of the pieces out to the students in your class and have them find the student whose expression simplifies to the same thing.
Another option is to have the students work on them individually or in groups. Print the expression pieces onto card stock and pass them out to the students and have them match them up. To make it easier for the students you can print one set on one color paper and their corresponding pair on another. You can easily turn this into a competition for extra credit points by rewarding the individuals/groups that finish first, second, or third.
