The first standard for Operations and Algebraic Thinking says:
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Are you sure you are teaching your students how to solve each of these problem types? This product has two word problems for each of the problem types listed in the standard that should be mastered in first grade. They are:
-add to, result unknown
-take from, result unknown
-add to, change unknown
-take from, change unknown
-put together, total unknown
-put together, both addends unknown
-put together/take apart, addend unknown
-compare, difference unknown (how many more version)
-compare, difference unknown (how many fewer version)
-compare, bigger unknown (more version)
-compare, smaller unknown (fewer version)
That’s 11 different problem types--making 22 different word problems!
Included in this product you will get a small version of the word problems for your reference, as well as a full sheet size of each problem for whole class use. You will also get two versions of a problem solving sheet (one for working within ten and one for working within twenty) to help with getting your students to solve problems using different strategies.
