The Making Ten Birds game can be used to reinforce making 10, and helps students visualize unknown addends. This game can be used both for individual monitoring and/or small group competition.

For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation. – DOK Level 2 - K.OA.A.4/MAFS.K.OA.1.4

For individual monitoring, each student will need a white board and marker. You can monitor what the students write on the white boards to check for understanding. For small group competition, you can create teams and have them compete to see which team gets the most correct answers.
