This addition practice packet will help your children to develop fluency in addition to 10. This set promotes differentiation and is scaffolded using four levels of horizontal and vertical problems:
1. Children look at an illustration in which the pictures match the problems.
2. They shade the pictures using 2 different colors to match the problems.
3. They complete addition problems with no pictures.
4. They use the “counting on” strategy: Tell the children to pretend to take the bigger number in their hands, shake it, and add the smaller number to it.
Use this product to teach the following K-1 Common Core State Standards:
Grade K: CCSS.Math.Content.K.OA.A.2, CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.A.2 - Children learn to add numbers to 10. Encourage your class to create stories to accompany problems. You can use the last 10 pages to connect counting forward from a given number to addition.
Grade 1: CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.C.6, CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.C.5: Use problems to help children to develop fluency for addition to 10. The last 10 pages will help children learn the “counting on” strategy (from 1.0A.C.6), and to relate counting to addition (from 1.OA.C.5).
I recommend using this packet as part of your math program--For daily practice, for assessments, and for homework. Use it in conjunction with other games, activities, and songs.
