This booklet will complement your array unit study by engaging your students in fun activities, which allow them to work with repeated addition. This is a building block for multiplication. In addition, it will help your students gain a better understanding of the commutative property of addition, students can add either the rows or the columns and still arrive at the same solution.
In this booklet your students will have the opportunity to use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
The activities included in this packet were created in correlation to the Second Grade Common Core State Standard 2.OA.4 (AL); however, I taught this standard (these skills) to my first graders and they did really well with it; and, they absolutely LOVED the activities.
