Mollie People help your little people learn to Add with Regrouping!
Start with "Will You Need To Regroup?"
With this page, students explore when to regroup. Use this page in a sheet protector with dry eraser marker. Students pull out two number cards and place them large black boxes. Then students add and write the sum in the sum box. If the sum is less than 10, then they place a "No" in the Yes or No question square. It the sum is 10 or more, then they place a "Yes" card there. Then clear the mat and pull two new numbers. There are two versions for you to use--one with touchpoints to help your students add and the other with dot boxes. Practice the process individually on the follow up sheet by rolling dice for the two numbers.
Next, use the "Addition with Regrouping" mat (also in sheet protector) to practice the process. Mollie People give hints to help with the process. See my example page for how to use the mat. I have included mats using both touchpoint and dot boxes.
And finally, students can practice the identical process on individual paper/pencil practice sheets.
