Adjective bags are a fun way to encourage students to choose creative, specific adjectives to describe nouns, and they will get your class up and moving! This activity is great for ELLs / ESL students or for any student who would benefit from vocabulary practice in grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3!
You will need a paper lunch bag for each student. To prep the activity, print the adjective cards and the recording sheets. Copy the recording sheets. Place one noun card inside each paper bag. You may also wish to laminate the cards for durability.
Students will peek in the bag at their secret nouns and record adjectives that describe that noun on the adjective bubble map recording sheet. When finished, they will paste or staple the bubble map on the front of the bag for others to view.
When all students have completed their bags, they can walk around the room and try to guess the noun in each bag based on the adjectives their classmates have provided. Guesses can be recorded on the provided recording sheet. An answer key is included. You may also wish to complete this portion of the activity as a small group literacy center.
Thirty noun cards are included. You can play again and again by assigning different cards each time you use the activity. Mix it up by playing in pairs or teams!
