The ADOPTing Scholarly Behavior program, is a simple way for teachers to keep track of engaged and inappropriate student behavior alike.
The behaviors that are being documented relate to the acronym ADOPT.
Self Governed Students Teacher Governed Students
A = Asking Meaningful Questions A = not paying Attention
D = Following Directions D = not following Directions
O = On Task and Organized O = not staying On-task
P = Paying Attention & Listening P = Playing around (Self-Control)
T = Taking Responsibility for Self T = not completing assignments
These behavior standards, are especially critical to student achievement. If students were motivated to be focused on self-governed behaviors and stayed away from the disengagers,they would be in a more favorable position for learning and growing academically.
The ADOPT program is easy enough to use and be able to monitor the entire class yet specific enough to have the ability to document and report on an individual basis. These management techniques, are simple and effective. This system also promotes a room environment that is efficient, fair, firm, and consistent.
