Advanced Drafting Projects (CAD or Traditional Drafting)
The advanced drafting projects are best suited for students that have been previously taught basic drafting skills. All projects fit on standard 8½ x 11 printer paper or drafting paper. If you wish to use larger drafting paper or plotter paper the scale must be adjusted accordingly. Due to formatting, the drawing scale precision may not be perfect. All drawing projects have a light grid background which will be helpful to students. These drawings are for educational use only and are not to be used for actual construction or manufacturing. Please respect all copyright laws when using these projects.
Students can create color renderings of these projects after they complete the dimensioned version. Sample color renderings are included with most projects. All projects come with a drafting paper download that has the correct grid size background for each individual project. Five of the drawings also have a rendering included.
1. Dugout (Baseball & Softball) - Scale: ¼”=1’-0”
This is an architectural drafting project of a dugout. The project contains a front elevation, a side elevation and a floor plan (plan view). There are many details, features, dimensions and notations on this drawing project. The dugout project is a very challenging yet rewarding project.
2. Electric Guitar - Scale: ¼”= 1”
This project is a 3-view orthographic projection of a rock guitar. There are many details, features and dimensions within this project. Although challenging, students should be motivated to complete this drawing. A sample color rendering is included.
3. Ferris Wheel - Scale: 1”= 20’
This advanced level project should motivate students. They will use their drafting skills and some math skills to complete this unique 2 view project of a Ferris wheel. There is a separate drawing project for the gondola the holds the passengers. Also included is a sample rendering in color.
4. Gondola (for the Ferris Wheel) - Scale: ½”= 1’-0”
The gondola is a 3-view orthographic projection project. The details and dimensions required make this activity a challenge. Students should enjoy this project. There is a sample color rendering included.
5. Site Plan - Scale: 1”= 20’
The site plan drawing can be used as a civil engineering, surveying or architectural drafting project. This project is a plan view (top view) of a lot that contains a house, driveway, in-ground swimming pool and other permanent structures. Setback lines, details and other features are included on this drawing.
6. Space Shuttle - Scale: 1”= 30’
This detailed drawing of a space shuttle should inspire your students to develop their drafting skills. This project is an orthographic projection (3-view) activity. Students should enjoy completing this interesting drawing. Included with this project is a sample rendering in color.
7. Sports Car - Scale: 3/8”= 1’-0”
This sports car project should generate some enthusiasm. The drawing contains three views which is an orthographic projection activity. Students should enjoy completing this project. A sample color rendering is included.
8. Swimming Pool (In-Ground) - Scale: ¼”=1’-0”
This project contains a section view (longitudinal section) and a plan view (top view) of an in-ground swimming pool. The longitudinal view is cutting the pool in half from the low end to the deep end. This is a great way to introduce section views.
