This assignment was created for my advanced level painting course, but can also be used as an Advanced Placement Art breadth piece. For the project students are asked to research artists who paint food. They then have to set up and photograph their own food still life to turn into a hyper realistic oil painting.
This pack includes the presentation I use introduce the project to my students. The PowerPoint has project info, an artist exemplar, examples of food still lifes, and information on how to set up and take a good photograph of a still life. The second PowerPoint includes information on how to start with an underpainting and slowly build up layers of thin oil paint to create a more realistic look.
In addition to the PowerPoints, this also includes an in-depth lesson plan, complete with supplies, resources, implementation, a rubric, homework/sketchbook assignment, critique sheet, tips on photographing their still life, critique superlatives, and national standards.
I include PowerPoint, Word docx, and PDFs of all my resources in one convenient zip file.
**If using for AP Art, cut the timeline in half to two weeks, rather than 4, to complete the assignment.**
