My work is based on Mini-Lessons for Literature Circles by Harvey "Smokey" Daniels and Nancy Steineke, Thinking MapsⓇ graphic organizers, and the Q3 Card questions by Sarah Kaplan. I have found them invaluable, and I’ve seen incredible results with my students.
I revised the jobs from the original book and training I went through for my current classes: 8th grade TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and gifted and talented students. If students have done lit. circles in lower grades, they really deserve something new. And, they should be digging deeper. Higher grades will find as much success, even at lower skill levels. Please feel free to build upon what I’ve done for your classes and the needs of your students. I look at these job sheets every time I do lit. circles and see if I need to revise them for student success.
I have included 7 jobs and teacher instructions in this bundle. Lit. circle duration will depend on the books, your learners, and how you choose to spread the meetings out. I like to take between 2-3 weeks and no more. Students usually meet twice a week.
