This is a eight page notes packet that examines how geographers describe locations. The packet addresses place and region with all of the sub-categories associated with it (to include: place, location, site, situation, toponym, formal region, vernacular region, & functional region to name a few). Each page is full of graphic organizers to help make the learning of the concepts more visual. There are also 2 pages of application style questions that asks students to apply the concepts of place, region and location to their own lives. This will help retention of these concepts. The notes set is very flexible, it can be used for students to focus on during lecture, you can use it as a note taking guide (if you are using the 10th edition Cultural Landscape book by Rubinstein - this would be chapter 1 material), or you can use it to preview or review the material covered. It makes a great review homework assignment. It can also be used as a cooperative learning activity where you place the students in groups, and ask them to discuss each element and fill in the worksheet, students could then glue it into their interactive notebooks (if they are using them). The worksheet set includes learning goals as well as an answer key.
